The study found that admissions have more than tripled in the past five years, the According to the study, the number of people admitted to facilities in Maryland for treatment for PCP addiction increased from 281 in 1999 to 1,016 in 2003. Prince George&#8217;s County had the largest increase in the state, with PCP-related treatment admissions jumping from 53 in 1999 to 387 in 2003. The study linked the rise in treatment admissions to an increase in availability of the drug. Similar trends were seen in the Washington, D.C., area.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: verdana; color: #000099; font-size: 10pt;\">&#8220;There are more PCP users now than before,&#8221; said Rose Ann Soloway, clinical toxicologist at the National Capital Poison Center, which serves Prince George&#8217;s County, Montgomery County, the District and Northern Virginia. &#8220;PCP use is increasing and it is a very dangerous drug. It is not just the effect on the body but the effect on what drug abusers do; people jumping into traffic, and drowning.&#8221; Researchers say that PCP in its liquid form is becoming more popular among adolescents and young people. &#8220;It&#8217;s easy to use,&#8221; said Erin Artigiani, deputy director for Policy at the Center for Substance Abuse Research. &#8220;There also seems to be some confusion about what PCP really is and its harmful effects.
