This medicine, called Epidiolex (cannabidiol [CBD]) oral solution is approved to treat Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet syndromes in adults and children over age 2. It\u2019s the first drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of Dravet syndrome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt;color: #0000ff\">The component of marijuana used in Epidiolex \u2013\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcentral.com\/condition\/cbd\" data-xlink=\"true\">cannabidiol<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 doesn\u2019t induce feelings of euphoria, or \u201chigh,\u201d typically associated with cannabis, which is caused by a chemical in marijuana called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt;color: #0000ff\">Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome \u2013 conditions that both begin in childhood \u2013 cause frequent seizures and severely impact patients\u2019 quality of life. In three randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials involving 516 patients, Epidiolex, with other medications, effectively reduced seizure frequency.
