Sprague, Donnie Sullivan, Julie Teater and Arthur B. Yeh.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>The report includes four major sections titled &#8220;raising public awareness&#8221;, &#8220;educating future health-care professionals&#8221;, &#8220;emphasizing proper drug storage, disposal&#8221; and &#8220;prioritizing pharmacogenomics&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Raising Public Awareness<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>The first section of the report outlines background information on the opioid issue the SCOPE was founded on. It also states that an underlying issue were illicitly manufactured fentanyls (IMFs) that are often added to other drugs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"WNAd143\" class=\"AdvertisementUnit AdvertisementUnit--wideGreyBase\" data-addata=\"{&quot;id&quot;:143,&quot;ownerinfo&quot;:{&quot;loc&quot;:{&quot;share&quot;:1}},&quot;screensizes&quot;:[[[1470,0],[[728,90],[300,250]]],[[1200,0],[[728,90],[300,250]]],[[992,0],[[728,90],[300,250]]],[[768,0],[[728,90],[300,250],[320,50]]],[[0,0],[[300,250],[320,50]]]],&quot;wncc&quot;:&quot;News&quot;,&quot;serverRendered&quot;:true}\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>The report goes on to state that work conducted by the Chemistry Unit in the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation&#8217;s Laboratory found noteworthy comparisons of polydrug samples that included IMFs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>The most present IMFs\u00a0in the polydrug samples during this study were fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>In 2013, 2.2% of polydrug samples containing heroin and cocaine also contained IMFs. However, in 2022, more than 89% of polydrug samples contained IMFs. (OUD).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>The survey reportedly covered four main categories:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<ul>\n<li>Initial screening of patients<\/li>\n<li>Training in OUD<\/li>\n<li>Training in care for patients at high risk for OUD<\/li>\n<li>Education in evaluating patients for &#8220;Adverse Childhood Experiences&#8221; (ACEs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>Results of the survey showed a need for a standardized curriculum discussing OUD.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>SCOPE partnered with Assistant Professor Dr. Kelsey Schmuhl of Ohio State University&#8217;s College of Pharmacy to develop the &#8220;Interprofessional Program on Opioid Use Disorder&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"WNAd20\" class=\"AdvertisementUnit AdvertisementUnit--wideGreyBase\" data-addata=\"{&quot;id&quot;:20,&quot;ownerinfo&quot;:{&quot;loc&quot;:{&quot;share&quot;:1}},&quot;screensizes&quot;:[[[1470,0],[[728,90],[300,250]]],[[1200,0],[[728,90],[300,250]]],[[992,0],[[728,90],[300,250]]],[[768,0],[[728,90],[300,250],[320,50]]],[[0,0],[[300,250],[320,50]]]],&quot;wncc&quot;:&quot;News&quot;,&quot;serverRendered&quot;:true}\"><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>The more than 2,000 students that completed the course were suggested to understand more about OUD and the factors that contribute to it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Emphasizing Proper Drug Storage, Disposal<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>A large danger that SCOPE wanted to address was the potential danger of having unsecured opioids available at home from left over prescriptions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>A study conducted by the Wisconsin Poison Control in which calls were fielded between 2002 and 2016 relating to unintended opioid exposure revealed that 61% of cases involved children aged zero to 5-years-old, and 29% involved teens between 13 and 19 years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Article-paragraph\">\n<p>SCOPE partnered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to create the &#8220;Attorney General Drug Dropoff Days&#8221; In 2020, a snapshot of the collection numbers for all of the counties in the map above.
