The objective was to evaluate the possible association between major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and the use of cannabis or cannabinoids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Dr. Matthew Springer, a heart disease biologist at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), told the New York Times\u00a0that marijuana inhalation delivers \u201cthousands of chemicals deep into the lungs,\u201d potentially increasing cardiovascular risk. His lab recently found that both edible and inhaled forms of marijuana were associated with comparable levels of blood vessel dysfunction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">An accompanying\u00a0editorial\u00a0by researchers from California USA said about the study:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Legalisation of medical and recreational cannabis commerce is spreading around the world, associated with increased use1\u00a0and falling perception of the risk.\u00a0Frequent cannabis use has increased in several countries, and many users believe that it is a safe and natural way to relieve pain or stress.\u00a0In contrast, a growing body of evidence links cannabis use to significant harms throughout life, including cardiovascular health of adults. The robust meta-analysis of cannabis use and cardiovascular disease by Storck\u00a0et al4\u00a0in this issue of\u00a0Heart\u00a0raises serious questions about the assumption that cannabis imposes little cardiovascular risk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">This study is backed up by a\u00a0March 2025 publication\u00a0by the American College of Cardiology which revealed that cannabis users under the age of 50 are six times more likely to suffer a heart attack and three times more likely to die from cardiovascular causes compared to non-users.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">According to a\u00a0review article\u00a0in\u00a0JACC: Journal of the American College of Cardiology \u2013\u00a0\u201cMarijuana is becoming increasingly potent, and smoking marijuana carries many of the same cardiovascular health hazards as smoking tobacco.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">As reported by\u00a0Christian Daily International, in 2019, the Christian Medical &amp; Dental Associations (CMDA) \u2014 a U.S.-based nonprofit representing thousands of Christian healthcare professionals \u2014\u00a0issued a position statement\u00a0cautioning against recreational and medicinal marijuana use. \u201c[T]here is a need for limiting access to marijuana,\u201d the CMDA said.
