It\u2019s great for commerce, but just like it\u2019s great for commerce is great for drug traffickers as well,\u201d says Brian McNeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">Brian McNeal is the DEA\u2019s Public Information Officer for the Detroit Division, covering Michigan, Ohio, and Northern Kentucky.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">His visit to college campuses comes after a major bust in September where a large amount of drugs \u2014 including fentanyl \u2014 were seized after being brought into the region from China.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a demonstration that what happens in other parts of the world can have an impact here in Ohio,\u201d states McNeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">McNeal says a lot of times, you don\u2019t know what\u2019s in a synthetic opioid. Sometimes it\u2019s filler \u2014 like aspirin or caffeine. But other times it\u2019s methamphetamine or even a lethal dose of fentanyl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">McNeal says a\u00a0big trend they\u2019re seeing now are counterfeit pills, and they\u2019re easier than ever to get.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">\u201cGone are the days where you have to meet somebody in a weird part of town. You can just sit on your phone and order these pills,\u201d states McNeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">He says half of the\u00a0counterfeit pills they\u2019re seizing contain two milligrams of fentanyl, which is a deadly dose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">That\u2019s why they\u2019re bringing the campaign to campus to promote drug prevention and provide free resources, and in turn, decrease drug related deaths.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">\u201cA lot of times, college students whether they\u2019re on campus or off campus, there\u2019s this misnomer that maybe if I pop a Percocet or an Adderall, it\u2019ll help me study,\u201d says McNeal. \u201cThe only pill that you should take is one prescribed by your doctor, obtained at a legitimate pharmacy, that has your name on it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">The DEA says young adults ages 18 to 25 make up 11 percent of drug-related emergency room visits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #0000ff;\">Source: https:\/\/www.wdtn.com\/news\/local-news\/dea-launches-campaign-on-campuses-warning-of-drug-dangers\/<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by:\u00a0Kelley King &#8211;\u00a0 Miami Valley News &#8211; Posted: Sep 8, 2025 \/ 05:53 PM EDT DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) \u2014 The Drug Enforcement Administration is launching a major campaign to combat drug abuse on college campuses.
