In addition, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/sites\/nhtsa.gov\/files\/2022-12\/Alcohol-Drug-Prevalence-Among-Road-Users-Report_112922-tag.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\" data-feathr-link-aids=\"580e6bef8e8027472d6f7125\">study by NHTSA<\/a>\u00a0found more than 54% of injured drivers had some amount of alcohol or drugs in their system at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>While this month focuses primarily on reducing impaired driving on the road, it\u2019s also crucial to extend this conversation to safety in the workplace and how drunk and drug impaired driving can impact the construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>What can your organization do to prevent drunk and drug impaired driving incidents?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Perform\u00a0<strong>random<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>post-incident drug testing<\/strong>\u00a0and have a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/eta\/RRW-hub\/Recovery-ready-workplace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\" data-feathr-link-aids=\"580e6bef8e8027472d6f7125\">recovery-ready workplace<\/a>\u00a0to engage and support employees in stopping substance misuse whenever possible.<\/li>\n<li>Provide\u00a0<strong>education and training<\/strong>\u00a0materials on the effects of certain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/factsheets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\" data-feathr-link-aids=\"580e6bef8e8027472d6f7125\">substances<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NAHB has several Video Toolbox Talks, available in English and Spanish, that cover drunk and drug impaired driving and its underlying causes.
