Derek says Andrew used to socialise with Michael McKay, 33, who died earlier this month following a five-month addiction to new psychoactive substances (NPS).

Now Derek is worried that his son will end up having a similar fate.

He said: “It’s three times that he has had to be taken to Ninewells. “It happened twice in about a week and then about six months later it happened again.

“I can’t stop him using legal highs, but you can always tell when he has been, as his nose is red and he’s sniffing a lot.
